Secure Your Finances: Report Fraud and Discover Recovery Tips

Here you’ll find information on how to report any suspicious activities and essential tips on what to do if you’ve fallen victim.

During business hours: Contact your local banking center as soon as possible or reach out to our Call Center team by dialing 800-873-6404.

After business hours: Call the number on the back of your debit card to report and block your lost or stolen card. Then, call your local banking center or our Call Center team the next business day. You can also turn your card on/off in Mobile Banking.

If your check or checkbook has been stolen, notify your local banking center as soon as possible or reach out to our Call Center team by dialing 800-873-6404. You should continue to monitor your account to make sure none of the stolen checks are negotiated.

As soon as you suspect you are a victim of identity theft, you need to take quick action and keep track of the steps you take. Here are some important steps to take:

- Place a fraud alert at one of the three credit bureaus.

- Freeze or close potentially impacted accounts

- File a report at IdentityTheft.gov, and provide as much detail as possible.

- Review your credit reports, which can be accessed for free once a year at annualcreditreport.com.

- Notify your local banking center as soon as possible.

- Change passwords and PINs.

If you suspect wire fraud, contact your local banking center as soon as possible or reach out to our Call Center team at 800-873-6404.

While the reporting process can vary by state, you should report suspected abuse to local law enforcement and your local Adult Protective Services agency by visiting http://www.napsa-now.org/. If you know where the person does their banking, you should report your concerns there as well.

If you see any suspicious activity in your Online Banking, Bill Pay, Mobile Deposit, or Zelle®, immediately change your account password and reach out to your local banking center as soon as possible. You can also reach out to our Call Center team at 800-873-6404.

Helpful Tips to Keep Your Information Safe:

  • Colony Bank will never ask you to send your personal or financial information in response to or via a link in an email.

  • Our team will never initiate a phone call asking for financial information such as your account numbers, social security number, online banking information, or account balances.

  • When you call Colony Bank, we may ask you for specific information in an attempt to verify your identity before disclosing financial information.

  • Set account alerts within your Online or Mobile Banking to be notified when your account or debit card is being used. Learn more here.
